Trimester 1 Week 7: 10/9 ~ 10/13 (updated daily)

 Monday-Thursday: Read/record 10 mins. on HRC October due Friday, October 27th.  Be sure to read a fictional novel of 100 pages or more by Monday, October 23rd.

 

Monday: Finish Study Sync P. 9 Q's 1-3 (RA#4).  Peer edit/discuss/edit/correct answers.  Lesson: Subject/Predicate/Sentence Fragments.  Begin GR#1 Q's 1-23 (Hatchet).

Tuesday: Meet in library to get Hatchet textbooks; continue GR#1 Q's 1-23 (Hatchet); answer the following follow up questions: 1. Identify a fragment in Paragraph Two.  Why is this fragment effective when combined with the sentence that follows it?  2.  How is a fragments used as a transition between ideas in paragraphs 8 and 10? 3. Choose one of the fragments and rewrite it as a complete sentence.  What effect does the revision have?  Explain which you prefer.

Thursday: Write about a time where you felt unfairly treated or where you were judged unfairly for something you didn't do.  Read the story Eleven on pp. 47-49 in your textbook.  Answer p. 50 Q's 1-5 using textual evidence for support.

Friday: Finish p. 50 Q.'s 1-5.  Reread the story Eleven,, make annotations and define vocabulary words.  Watch Study Sync TV: Collaboration Video.

WednesdayCW: Make Final Edits to Final Draft In-class Narrative Story and submit it; HRC Sept. passed back: watch video preview and begin Unit 1 in your Study Sync textbook.  Read Introduction pg. 6/learn about visualizing.  In groups list what you know about wilderness survival and how media has affected our views on how to survive in the wilderness.

ThursdayCW: Watch "Partly Cloudy" Pixar Short.  Fill out the plot elements using complete sentences.  Continue Study Sync: Hatchet. Read pp. 7-9.  Use context clues to write the 5 definitions of the boldface vocabulary words in the text.  Annotate the text by writing questions, key information, events, characters and connections in the margins and underlining and circling key details.

Pixar Short Handout

For each Pixar short movie that we watch, please fill out the corresponding plot roller coaster using complete sentences.  Remember not to answer the movie moment questions; instead, please tell the theme of the story.
