Dance

Course Description

In this year-long class, you will dance, stretch, jump, turn, reach, laugh, love, and grow.  Whether you are an advanced student of dance, a beginner, or somewhere in between, this is the class for you!

Through exposure to various dance genres (including jazz, cultural dance, ballet, musical theatre, hip hop and choreography), you will get fit while having fun.  Just as much an intellectual and emotional experience as it is a physical one, dance requires that you focus and give it everything you've got.  It's a healthy way to relieve stress and a much needed break from the over-abundance of screens and technology that fill our day.

Nobody cares if you can’t dance well. Just get up and dance. Great dancers are great because of their passion.      *Martha Graham*

The Reflections contest is here, and this year's theme is "What is your story?"  Did you know that you can submit projects in filmmaking and choreography categories?  I want to encourage all of my Video Com and Dance P.E. students to seriously consider this wonderful opportunity.  Please let me know if you intend on participating.
Dancers, here's a great visual on the dance elements.  As you probably noticed, it's using the acronym "BEST" whereas in my class, we use "BASTE"-- a dancer's BODY creates and ACTION in SPACE in TIME with ENERGY.

You're off to a great start!

Hi Dancers!

This week, you learned about and presented on the Elements of Dance.  In case you were absent for that or would like a refresher, I've posted a brief video below on the topic.  Check it out!

I've been pleased to see your level of participation and your willingness to try new things, challenge yourself, and have fun!

You're off to a great start!
