Good Afternoon Language Arts 7 - Assignments for March 19 and March 20

Good Afternoon All -
First let me say that apologies are in order for all of you that have a schedule at home (good for you!), and have been waiting for this post.  In these unusual times I have learned that unusual things happen - and so it happened today at my house.  Nothing bad or life threatening just a little water leak which would in other times be a big deal but with all that is going on, it was nothing.

However, it did make me realize that many of you have schedules and questions and I am keeping you from not getting to it by not posting - so here is the new deal.  Below I am posting for the next two days.  Sunday night I will post for the week as I see it.  However, you will still hear from me each day with daily notes etc.  Hope this helps all of you who have emailed me...which is great.  Please continue to do so.

Before I post assignments three things: (BTW PLEASE ANNOTATE WITH STICKY NOTES OR ON A SEPARATE PIECE OF PAPER - YOU DO NOT NEED TO DO BULLET POINTS - THE STUDY QUESTIONS FOR EACH CHAPTER WILL PREPARE YOU FOR THE FINAL AND ESSAY)
1. You can go to YouTube if you have not already and use the audio as you read along in the book.  Do NOT go to Spark notes or any other summary service.  It will not help you and when we write our final essay I will be able to tell whether or not you read the ENTIRE book.

2. Please email me anytime should you fall behind, do not have access to a computer OR in fact this is the first post you have read.  I will get you caught up.  I am here to help you.

3.  I am in the process of learning Zoom and another way of connecting with you as I ramp this online learning thing up.  Hopefully I can greet you Monday in a better way than just a post.

ASSIGNMENTS - THURS MARCH 19
1. Make sure you have completed chapters 1-5 - READING, ANNOTATING AND THE COMPREHENSION QUESTIONS - MAKE SURE YOU HAVE WATCHED THE POWERPOINT AND TAKEN NOTES - MAKE SURE YOUR CHARACTER CHART IS COMPLETE THROUGH CHAPTER 5.

2.If all that is done, spend 20 minutes reading your free read book - MAKE YOUR OWN READING CHART WITH THE DATE, NAME OF BOOK AND PAGES READ IF YOU DID NOT RECEIVE MY HANDOUT (Many did not).

ASSIGNMENTS - FRIDAY MARCH 20
1. Write me a letter and tell me how you are doing at home, how you are feeling emotionally and physically with all that is going on.  Share any creative ways you and your family are coping being in your house - ETC., ETC.  Please type it and send it to me through my email or your office 365 account.  I WILL be checking!
2. Read your free read book and log in.

THAT'S IT FOR NOW.  LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS...
TAKE GOOD CARE,
MRS. LEIBFRIED

Good Morning Language Arts 7 March 18 2020

Good Morning Everyone,
So sorry this is a bit late.  My husband and I are juggling our one desktop between my postings etc and his business...unusual crazy times.  I hope you all are well, staying warm and are able to keep up with what must be a whole lot of online work coming at you from all directions.
Today I am going to post my assignment and then the last half of this message will be answers to most asked questions I am receiving to my email.  That being said, please continue to email me as needed...

FOR TODAY: if you completed chapters 1-3 yesterday and the subsequent comprehension questions, please make sure today you begin completing the Character Chart.  Every character in the book is listed.  The chart asks you for evidence from the text as to their traits and their internal and external qualities.  Please take quotes from the book that explain each character.  As you place them in the space allotted or another piece of paper use this format: ".........………....."(92).  Note the page number does not have "page" just the number and the period is placed after the page.

ONCE YOU HAVE CAUGHT UP WITH THAT MAKE SURE YOU HAVE CLEAR NOTES FROM THE POWERPOINT THAT IS ON THIS SITE.  VERY IMPORTANT BACKGROUND FOR THIS BOOK...

THEN PLEASE READ CHAPTERS 4 AND 5 AND DO QUESTIONS AND CHART.

I WILL BE POSTING MY NOTES RE CHAPTERS 1-5 TOMORROW SO TRY TO COMPLETE THE ABOVE TODAY AND TOMORROW.

I SEEM TO ONLY HAVE SPACE FOR ONE QUESTION - MORE TOMORROW - WHEN IS ALL THIS DUE? APRIL 6 - THE DAY WE RETURN!!!

STAY WELL MY STUDENTS,
I WILL BE ONLINE NO LATER THAN 10 TOMORROW POSTING...

Good Morning Language Arts 7 March 16 2020

Dear Students and Parents,
Welcome to our "new normal".  I hope you all are doing well, feeling well and practicing all the right things such as social distancing, hand washing etc.  Here are the nuts and bolts of how we will manage through the next two weeks:
I will post your assignments under "Classes".  Our goal is to read The Outsiders and complete the PDF packet and chapter questions.

Please know that you can use and audio version to read along if necessary.  Please try to annotate as much as possible and keep bullet points on each chapter.

Today's assignment is just to print the two PDF packets.  Please read the background on S.E. Hinton, the author of The Outsiders.  She is fascinating and wrote this classic at age 16 from her own personal experience.  More on that later.

Each morning I will greet you about this time right here - update your reading assignment and packet assignment although I will post ahead beginning tomorrow for those of you who would like to work ahead.

Additionally, as we go through this "new normal" if you would like to write your feelings etc in a personal journal for extra credit please feel free to do so.  More on that tomorrow.

Finally, as always if you would like to send me a personal email with questions, feelings anything at all, please feel free to do so to [email protected].

I am here for you and we are all in this together.  Look for another letter right here every morning.

Stay healthy and strong,
Mrs. Leibfried
