Tri. 1 Week 12 11/12 ~ 11/15

Tuesday - Thursday read and record 10 minutes on your HRC November (due Wednesday, November 20th).

 

Tuesday:  Classwork: Book Talk Book Report Presentations

Wednesday: Classwork: Finish Book Talk Book Report Presentations.

HW: R/R 10 mins; HT#A Quickwrite (1 page/2 paragraphs) and HT#B Summary Chapter 2 and 3 (1 page) due tomorrow.

 

Thursday: Classwork: Turn in HTA Quickwrite and HTB Summary Ch. 2-3.  Begin HT#1 Survival Item Sketch and Paragraph:  1. Design a Survival Item with the materials provided.  2. Draw a sketch of your item.  3.  Write a paragraph discussing the challenges your would face, describing the items you made, telling what it is made of, and explaining how it would be useful.

HW: R/R 10 mins; Finish HT#1 Survival Item Sketch and Paragraph.

 

Friday: Classwork: Read Ch. 4-5 of Hatchet and answer discussion questions.  begin reading Gary Paulsen's biography and summarize it into 2-3 paragraphs (1 page)

Monday: Classwork: Receive HRC November; staple and turn in Narrative Essay, Rough Draft, and Brainstorm; read Hatchet Chapter 1.

HW: R/R 10 mins; Book Talk Book Reports begin tomorrow; finish all requirements (due the day that you present)

Friday: Classwork: (Substitute)Read Ch. 3 in Hatchet.  Create 3 Comprehension Questions for the chapter.  Write the answers on the back of the page. Label it: HT #C Ch. 3 Comprehension Q's.

HT#A Quickwrite: Survival (at least one full page/2 paragraphs)

What do you know about surviving in the wilderness?  What are the most important things to think about first? Imagine that you are stuck in the wilderness alone.  Tell the story of what you would do if you were stuck in the wilderness (remember the plot roller coaster)

HT #B Summary Ch. 2 and 3

Write a 1 page summary of chapters 2 and 3 in Hatchet.

Monday: Classwork: Continue working with Island of the Blue Dolphins in your Study Sync textbook  P. 16-19.  finish making annotations.  1. Ask a question, 2. Track an Idea, and 3. Respond with a connection. 

HW: R/R 10 mins; choose your 2 best plot elements assignments from the Pixar and Scooby Doo episodes that we watched.  Highlight the title of the two assignments that you want me to grade and staple them together (due tomorrow).

 

Tuesday: Classwork: Lesson: Using Evidence to Prove Answers to Questions

Continue working with Island of the Blue Dolphins in your Study Sync textbook  P. 16-19.  Use the ACE method to answer p. 17 Think Q.'s 1-3.

Monday Classwork: Finish Blast: "Blast Away!" Peer Edit other students' blasts (at least 15). Lesson: Annotation: Begin RA#5 Concept Definitions 1. Annotation: a question or comment (written in the text) that captures your reaction to what you are reading 2. Inference: an idea formed by combining text evidence, reasoning and prior knowledge

HW: R/R 10 mins.  Use your online textbook in your portal to finish Peer Edits (at least 15) for "Blast Away"

 

Tuesday Classwork: Lesson: Context Clues: Continue RA#5 Concept Definitions 1. Context Clues: Hints at the meaning of an unfamiliar word that can be found in the text  Some types of context clues: definitions, examples, comparison, contrast, cause/effect  Be sure you have completed in your online textbook: Annotations Assignment: Define, Model and Your Turn.  Begin Context Clues Assignment: Define and Model.
