First Lesson on the table.

good morning thank you for your on a we are going to start our next piece which is going to be a woodworking piece it's the first thing I've done is give you a link to a fantastic guy called Chris Connor and I want you go ahead and watch this group video and see what he uses SketchUp for creating a small piece simple chairs now we're going to do more complex using SketchUp so don't get too stressed this is to learn how to use what's known as groups and components it's one of the most powerful Tools in SketchUp and allows you to isolate geometry so that you can work on pieces without it warping or pulling pieces in different directions so key to this piece I'm looking at crane the table is significant but I'm going to ask you to do is create group groups and components and when I go to look at your peace I'm going to check to make sure that your groups and components work correctly every time on that. I clicked on something you should open up and I'll explain later how I'll grade that's what each group and components should open when one does not that would be a deduction so we're going to go ahead and jump the sketch up here and at this point hopefully you have SketchUp working correctly and you can go to the online or online account and I'm going to say create you can you please answer create the first portion of the table so let me go ahead and go ahead and erase our little friend here I'm going to start by creating a boxer at my while you're watching the video I think it's take a moment and write down the measurements house we work I have the measurements start with we're going to start with a simple rectangle I'm going to start I want to hear I'm going to pull out the rectangle and make sure that you get this correctly please note that this is going to be inches, 48 inches and then I'll head going to give me my table so I'm going to zoom in on this and I have this rectangle in the base answer for the height is human closely on this line have this table top what I want to do is go ahead and take my pencil tool and I'm going to Chomper this table now it's conferring is what you do do to create an edge that is not Sharp what's better hands on Sharp edges of the bottom of the table is going to be and I'll find the midpoint here and I'll just going to cut over it will work better if you find the and you just do a small triangle like that okay underneath and that's under our move here under a push-pull so here's my follow me so and I can take the following me to take the triangle and push it all the way around to cut off but that is not the easiest thing to do so I'm just going to go what I want to do is Orbitz underneath the table go ahead and take the select tool on select the bomb service now I'm going to go back to my follow me tool and I will select the triangle and it will Chomper all the way around the outside so one more time to you on that again I make my nose triangle I take the select tool I select the bottom of the table and it makes the service so now I ask for the table for myself so it looks good so now that that is in place what I want to do is go ahead and move the table off so I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to Triple click onto my tabletop so you can see if I triple Flex everything highlights only text one service I'm going to go ahead and triple click and everything will highlight at that point I take my move tool and I'm going to grab the edge of the table and started lifting enough at that point I'm going to tell it 7 inches Pierce I scroll back you'll see it's now floating this would be the table height needs to move out around so now I can see my table top right here and I'm just going to orbit around on it you can see the currently everything is highlighted but all on collect office for a second so tabletop is now ready to be put into was called a group allows us to isolate or Wharf in a group is an individual piece that is not going to be copied if I'm creating additional copies of something I'm going to use something else what would happen if I triple click on this you have all of your services and then go ahead and right click on it and you will use submenu you will see here it says make group on the click on me and then I'll go to a double thickness muehlstein out when I double click I get this new bounding box that goes around their group together again if I double click on that it will open up note that single cycle now highlights the whole thing if I wanted to work in this group I would have to open that up and then I can go to work so make sure that it is a group but then we make sure that's a group is closed closed in rotate underneath table right here so once I go underneath the table I'm going to go ahead and use our tape measure Shuffle. Over and I will say once internet turn off. Samuel and that's going to be my leg and you'll see that I'm going to create this by going one inch , to inches , to inches enter the long as the leg is parallel to the long edge of the table so that point grab my football so again Amapola leg down here comes I'm going to pull that down 37 interest so there is and you'll see I now have. Like some of the rotate around so now I have that piece now this is what I want to do is create make a leg A Separate Peace called a component Triple 6 the light is not attached I right click on it and I say Nick component now I got a different box and I'm going to go ahead and tell want make this flag so that's my leg components I'm not going to pain description in there and I'm going to leave it as is it's okay so that point my is now a component so check this out inside double slip on the legs I get a component box if I double click on the tabletop I get so you want to have a separate group on the top and a component in a moment okay so again I'm going to copy this but accomplished make sure my component box is closed so no boxes should be open at this time all right underneath my table grab my tape measure and pull over wanted now I'm going to take my select tool on click once on my leg just once and then I'll grab my new school and grab the corner I hear you want to move from corner to corner so I'll try to slide over and at the same time I'm going to touch control which is going to slide over and drop that into that location so that point I now have two legs now please don't make any more lights just makes it to do something different with this this leg is also a can no please no components are power powerful because they allow you to duplicate movement so in this case if you take down here if I was to go to want to change something in this life you will see that if I take them and I was to grab the the middle point in just letting you will see that whatever I do to one leg will happen to the other leg and they are actually link I know please components do this duplicate groups do not so components are great if you're going to duplicate something but if you're not duplicating it you should make it a group so we can undo that per second I'm going to do I'm going to go ahead and rotate around zoom in on the bottom portion of my leg and then take my route. Find the center here of the leg and push it back on the green axis make sure you stay on the green and we'll try to help me to do that and I'm going to say one tonight I'm going to undo that in the try one more time to push back I really would like it to say on green but I think it's pretty clearly on the green they're just be careful you stay on your green it's easy to move around I'm not actually be on your access and I'm going to say one answer it's going to push my leg back it has shrunk in size and you'll see that now goes from the bottom to the other so now I have two legs that are in alignment with each other okay so the last thing we're going to do today is we're going to orbit underneath the table and I'm going to zoom in on the back turn the table outside down now I'm on my backside what I want to do is go ahead and pull a rectangle over I'm going to push a rectangle across and then I'm going to push it Forward on that surface 9 YouTube, point five Jason say how to say happened enter it's going to give me a piece to pull right here so what I'm going to do is go ahead push pull that down that's going to how can I give me a backing piece no please from the back of the Lex I'm going to go ahead and take my Celexa land I'm going to Triple click on that it is worth taking a moment to rotate around it make sure you have all of that piece then go ahead and right click on it and make components we're going to call this guy support so now you will see that if I click on that one it does have the component box around it I got to component box around my legs and on my group at this point I'm going to stop okay I'm going to stop I'm going to go ahead and hit save going to put it into my schedule a folder and I'm going to call this my complex table put my name on there and I will stay safe so did sitting right now there it is saving way and now it says save complex table mimic some pause upload if you questions please go ahead and let's let me know I'll try to schedule some video time on teams for us to work through this but at this point I have the leg cuz you must have our group on the table top a component box on the leg it should only go around one leg for member you can click them legs and a component box on the side support watch the video over again if you need to take your time makes a good luck with that again as you get to that
