Important Message from Mr. H

Dear Marauder Families,

I hope that you and your families are doing well in this crazy time.  Although things seem to change on a daily basis, it looks as though we will be working in a virtual classroom for the foreseeable future.  With that in mind, I must make a few changes to how the class runs.  Please read below to see how to navigate the class from now on.

Communication

Please keep email use reserved for parent-teacher communication only.  Students can access Mr. Hernandez through the Microsoft Teams Page through the “Posts” or with “Chats.”

Assignment Submission

Completed work will NO LONGER be accepted via email.  During this transition, I have been more than happy to take work through email, however, I have received an overabundance of emails which has made it difficult to sift through.  For organizational reason, ALL WORK MUST BE SUBMITTED ON THE MICROSOFT TEAMS PAGE.

Students must submit all work through their Class Teams Page.  This page can be found through their school Office 365 Account.

To submit:

  1. Go to your Teams Home Page
  2. Find the Assignments Tab on your screen click on it
  3. Find the assignment you wish turn in and select it
  4. Click “Add Work” and upload you document
    • Note:  You may need to save your work to your Office 365 Account to make things easier.

I cannot accept pictures of written work from this point on.  In many cases, the answers and other content were not clear enough to read.  I gave credit for all assignments submitted this way thus far.  If you must write out your work, please scan it and upload it to the Teams page.

Attendance

Attendance will be taken WEEKLY by simply submitting all work due for the week, attending the Zoom meetings, or interacting with Mr. Hernandez on the Teams Page.  Students who do not “check in” weekly will receive and email from Mr. Hernandez.  Extended periods of inactivity will be handled by school administration, so please pop in and say HI!

  • Note:  Any of these methods will count for attendance purposes, students do NOT have to participate in the Zoom to be "present"

I apologize in advance if this causes any inconvenience but this will (hopefully) make a huge difference in streamlining things on my end.  While there will be extenuating circumstances at times, I ask that you keep to the new format as much as possible.  I am sure that you have many questions about what happens next, please feel free to ask them via email or Teams depending on whether you are a parent or student.  Thank you for your cooperation, and your continued support.

Whether you are safe at home or doing essential work, please stay happy and healthy.

You guys are doing great!! Miss seeing everyone's faces every morning!

Mr. Dan Hernandez

Welcome Back!!!! I guess???

Hey Gang!!

Welcome "back" to class!  Although, you are still in you house, probably watching Netflix and eating ice cream out of the container.  No? That's just me?  Okay, whatever.

Anyways, below is some very important information.  Please read it.
  1. Spring Research Project
    • If you are still working on them because you have found it difficult to find sources, then follow these new guidelines for the number of sources required.  You can find and use more, but you need at least five sources.
      • 1 Book Source (You can use your textbook to describe the Italian Renaissance and/or Northern Renaissance)
      • 2 Online Sources (try to find reliable sources, Biography and History are okay, but you can really dig deep and find scholarly articles through college and university sites)
      • 1 Encyclopedia Source (This can be online as well but you cannot count an online encyclopedia as both and encyclopedia and online source)
      • 1 Other Source (video, song, painting, or addition source mentioned above.)
  2. Due Dates
    • Please attention to the due dates as I am beginning to enter work into Aeries.  Late work will be accepted, but I have extended due dates already so you should have plenty of time to finish your work.
    • Missing work will yield NO POINTS.
  3. Zoom Meetings
    • There are two meetings scheduled this week.  Please attend if you can and are allowed to do so.  * This schedule could change.
  4. Attendance
    • You do NOT have to attend the Zoom Meetings to be counted as present in class.  There are other methods of participating in class.
    • Attendance will be taken weekly via any of the following ways: Work Submitted, Zoom Meetings, Team Discussions.  If you do any of these things, then you are present for the week.
  5. Microsoft Teams
    • Since it seems that we are going to be interacting online for the foreseeable future, I am going to be shifting the class to the Teams Page.  This means that assignments will be given and collected in this location.  Please make this shift with me, to streamline the class and make it easier on all of us.
I am sure there are more things I need to point out but we have time.

Later Skaters!!

Mr. Hernandez

Daily Message

In case you’re are losing track of your days… it is Wednesday m’dudes!

I was SO awesome to see all of you in the Zoom Meeting this morning!!  I knew that I missed you guys but now I know just how much!  Like, A LOT!

Anyways, if you missed the meeting we didn’t talk about too much, but here is the basic run down.

  1. Due Dates: I am going to be flexible with these upcoming due dates, because we are in the middle of a pandemic and I think understanding and consideration needs to practiced by everyone right now.
  2. Exams: For Chapters 9 and 10, the exams are now the study guides.  Complete each study guide and that will count as a “take home” exam for the corresponding chapter.  You do NOT have to answer the short answer section for Chapter 9, but YOU MUST answer the short answer section for Chapter 10.  Thanks!
  3. Quick Writes: Any and all Quick Writes through Chapter 10 are NOT required anymore.  If we begin to do the quick writes we will start them again in Chapter 11.
  4. Microsoft Teams: To reduce the amount of emails that I am getting with questions and assignments, I am asking that you all begin to make the transfer to the Class Team in your Office 365 Account.  There you can ask questions, submit work, and find important information.  It is like Edlio but better.
    1. I will continue to use Edlio, though.
  5. Aeries: I am just beginning to venture out to learn how to teach remotely.  Many of the lessons that I had planned are definitely lost in the translation of the internet.  Because of this, I am just now getting around to catching up with the grades on Aeries.  I ask that you be patient.  Thanks!
  6. Late work: If you have missing work from before the school closing down, please get that in to me.  I will repost the exact assignments for you, so you can work on those.  I will not take any points off if you get them in to me before the break.  REMEMBER: USE COMPLETE SENTENCES!

Zoom-bie Schedule:

Our next Zoom Meeting will be on Friday at 11am.  There will be a Free Form Friday questionnaire that you may want to answer before you log on.  Again, WE HAVE MOVED THE NEXT ZOOM MEETING FROM THURSDAY AT 9AM TO FRIDAY AT 11AM.  HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!  THE CODE WILL BE RELEASED TONIGHT.

Don't forget to check in for your homework.  See post below!
